Dr Özlem Biçer
Dr Özlem Biçer is an experienced hair transplant surgeon based in Istanbul, Turkey, who has worked in the field of hair restoration since 1998.
In a city known throughout the world for hair transplantation, Dr Biçer has taken a very different approach to the high-volume model commonly associated with Turkey. Her clinic focuses on one patient per day, with Dr Biçer herself closely involved in the treatment of each patient.
She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), a member of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons (IAHRS) and has received recognition from a number of respected organisations within the international hair restoration community.
Her clinic offers FUE hair transplantation alongside treatments for female hair loss, beard transplantation and eyebrow restoration.

Why I Chose to Work With Dr Biçer
Although I have not yet had the opportunity to spend time observing surgery at Dr Biçer's clinic, I have known of her and her work for many years.
What attracted me to working with Dr Biçer is her reputation for taking a much more personal and medically led approach to hair transplantation in Istanbul.
Turkey offers some excellent hair transplant surgery, but it is also a market where patients can find enormous differences in standards, surgeon involvement and the number of procedures performed each day.
Dr Biçer's approach is deliberately different.
The clinic operates on a one-patient-a-day basis and places considerable emphasis on individual assessment, careful planning and long-term patient care.
For someone considering travelling to Turkey for surgery, I think knowing who will actually be responsible for your treatment and how involved that doctor will be is incredibly important.
A Personal Approach Before Surgery
One aspect of Dr Biçer's process that I particularly like is the opportunity for patients to speak directly with her before committing to surgery.
After submitting their information and photographs, patients can have a one-to-one online consultation with Dr Biçer to receive an individual assessment and discuss their treatment.
I have spent over 15 years consulting with hair transplant patients and I know how valuable this can be.
A hair transplant shouldn't begin with selling somebody a number of grafts. It should begin with understanding their hair loss, expectations, donor area and what they are hoping to achieve.
Having access to the surgeon during this process gives patients the opportunity to ask questions and understand the thinking behind the proposed treatment plan before making a decision.

Experience and Surgical Approach
Dr Biçer has been involved in hair restoration since 1998 and has built considerable experience across different types of hair transplant surgery.
Her clinic offers FUE using both micromotor and manual extraction techniques, as well as unshaven FUE and body hair transplantation where appropriate.
The emphasis is on tailoring the procedure to the individual rather than applying exactly the same approach to every patient.
Dr Biçer's own philosophy also recognises something I think is sometimes forgotten in this industry: hair transplantation isn't simply about numbers.
The emotional impact of hair loss, the patient's expectations and how they feel about their appearance all matter.
Having been a hair transplant patient myself for 30 years, including experiencing poor surgery and subsequent repair work, this is something I can strongly relate to.
One Patient a Day
One of the biggest reasons I was interested in working with Dr Biçer is her one-patient-a-day approach.
Hair transplantation is detailed surgery and I have always valued clinics that deliberately limit volume rather than trying to maximise the number of procedures taking place.
For me, one patient a day allows the focus to remain where it should be: on that individual patient and achieving the best result possible from the donor hair available.
This is particularly relevant in Istanbul, where the sheer number of hair transplant clinics can make choosing between them extremely difficult for patients.
Long-Term Patient Care
The relationship with the clinic doesn't finish when surgery finishes.
Dr Biçer's clinic follows patients throughout the growth process, with ongoing communication and follow-up extending for at least 12 months after surgery.
I think good aftercare is an underestimated part of hair transplantation.
The first year can involve uncertainty, shedding, uneven growth and plenty of questions. Having access to a clinic that knows your case and remains available throughout that period can make a significant difference to the patient's experience.

Independent Recognition
Dr Biçer has been recognised by several established organisations and individuals within the international hair restoration community.
She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery and a member of the International Alliance of Hair Restoration Surgeons.
She is also an Elite Coalition Member of Hair Transplant Network and has been independently featured and recommended by other established patient educators within the hair restoration industry.
I don't believe memberships or recommendations alone should ever be the reason someone chooses a surgeon. Results, surgical philosophy, experience, planning and whether the doctor is right for your individual circumstances are far more important.
However, a long-standing reputation amongst both patients and others working within the industry is certainly something worth considering.
My Thoughts
Dr Biçer is slightly different from some of the other surgeons currently featured on my website because I haven't yet spent time inside her clinic.
I think it is important to be completely transparent about that.
My clinic pages are intended to become more than profiles copied from surgeons' websites. I want them to reflect what I have personally seen, the conversations I've had with the doctors and my own experience of how they work.
I already knew of Dr Biçer's reputation before we began working together, and there is a lot about her philosophy that aligns with what I look for in a clinic: limited patient numbers, substantial doctor involvement, experience, realistic planning and long-term patient care.
I plan to visit Dr Biçer in Istanbul and spend time with her and the team. Once I have observed the clinic and surgery first-hand, I'll be adding my own videos, interviews and observations to this page.
